I will hereby confirm that we (The Hives) have signed to Universal and also, more importantly in view of inaccurate press coverage, touch on the subject why.

We have for some time now had extremely serious issues with the BHR/Epitaph label and as a consequence we recently decided not to continue with the label we have been working with for seven years.

BHR/Epitaph has all along been aware of the seriousness of these matters so that we eventually left them is not a shock to anyone.

They have also all along been very well aware of why we are free to sign a new deal with whoever we want. BHR/Epitaph did not have the rights to our third album.

We did this simply to control our own destiny and regain the control over our work we once enjoyed with Burning Heart Records. This had to be done.

The Hives will be filming a special recording for CDUK in Waterloo, LONDON, UK on 04/05/02 and we have a limited amount of FREE tickets to watch the performance.

All applicants will need to be available from 2.00pm until 4.30pm and must be aged 16+ (Photo ID will be required to gain entry). Unfortunately we do not provide transport so guests will be required to make their own way there.

In response to the news story printed in NME this week purporting to reveal the true identity of Randy Fitzsimmons, The Hives guitarist Nicholaus Arson writes the following:

Once again the NME reveal nothing.

Sometimes it amazes me how shallow a journalist can dig in search for the truth and how unscrutinised their work seems before a paper goes into press.

This time it is the NME who are trying to do what so many others have tried before them, namely to "expose" the man known to the modern world as Randy Fitzsimmons.

Here is a quote:

"Now, after much international detective work, we can reveal that Randy Fitzsimmons, the man responsible for putting the band together and writing all their songs is none other than - Nicholaus himself.

Despite the constant smokescreen to hide the identity of the real genius behind The Hives, NME.COM has found out that Randy Fitzsimmons is actually a registered pseudonym - he doesn't exist."

If they had asked us or any one of their counterparts elsewhere in the world they would have known what virtually all of them already knew, as well as spared themselves the "international detective work", which sounds rather needless and time-consuming. I am not Randy Fitzsimmons. The sole reason for them and perhaps a few others thinking so is that my name can be found under the pseudonym Randy Fitzsimmons in the archives of STIM, the swedish equivalent of PRS (Performing Rights Society). The simple reason for that is that I simply just collect the money that they bring in in the name of The Hives and Randy Fitzsimmons.

I further wonder how someone can come to the conclusion that someone doesn´t even exist just because they are registered as a pseudonym? In this case the pseudonym obviously exists (I´m writing this) but has physically absolutely nothing to do with the actual man, Randy Fitzsimmons.

Due to this I shall hereby tell you again what we have, on numerous occasions previous to this, explained when we have been asked questions about Randy. This time I will do it so that everyone can understand.

Randy does not want to be part of what we are doing to any greater extent than to just write the songs and act as guidance. In other words he wants to remain anonymous.

Anyone in their right mind who would want to remain anonymous would not sign up for STIM or PRS even as a pseudonym. The simple reason for that has already been proven now by the NME and before by Time Out.

I therefore in order to maintain Randy´s anonymity collect the money which we then split six ways between the five already "exposed" members of The Hives and our notorious sixth.

This information is free and accessible to anyone, anywhere at any time. That should be enough even for a paper with an organization so strong and powerful that it can carry out "international detective work" in search for the "hidden" truth.

So now you know - but only until you forget I guess - how The Hives split their money, who I am and who I am not. That, I think, is enough for now.

Since Creation founder Alan McGee released "The Hives: Your New Favourite Band" on his new label Poptones, it has created a big buzz in the UK.

The album (featuring a selection of THE HIVES songs from the Veni, Vedi Vicious album, the Barely Legal album and the A-K-A IDIOT EP) has since October 2001 sold impressive 110 000 albums, meaning that it’s now beyond Gold-status (100 000 copies). The hype around the band that hails out from the small industrial town of Fagersta, Sweden is huge. And there’s no stopping Vigilante Carlstroem, Nicolaus Arson, Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, Dr Matt Destruction and Chris Dangerous now! They already appeared in UK´s biggest TV-show “Later”, and on their upcoming UK-tour performances for major TV-shows T4 and CD UK are confirmed.

The band has already been covered by England’s most important magazines as Q, NME, I.D, KERRANG, THE FACE, THE GUARDIAN and many more.

We were originally trying to hook up a Canadian tour since the shows that were on the current North American tour didn´t happen but unfortunately it didn´t work out. Close call though. - This week The Hives recorded the BBC show "Later" with Jools Holland. The programme was aired this friday. If you have BBC you may be able to catch the rerun.
- The Hives American tour has continued after the short trip to Britain. The band is currently working their way down the eastcoast. Check GIGS for dates in America.
- A couple of weeks ago The Hives recorded a Peel-session for BBC. The session will be aired sometime in the near future. LOOK OUT!

Torn between their love for Canadian liveshows and British engagements The Hives have been forced to make a really, really tough decision.

Here's the story:
Finally after years of wait we have been given the opportunity to go to Canada and the US. In some perverted and disgusting unfortunate way though this part is coinciding with some British business that we have also been wanting to do as well as playing these first four Canadian shows. Now the lucky fact is that The Hives have been blessed with fans with enormous brain capacity, much like the members of the band, and you can all easily work out that we can't do both. We don't wish to cancel any one of the two but we are forced to choose only one alternative.

Contemplating the complex nature of the problem, while under enormous pressure from outside sources, The Hives have this time decided to follow recommendations and go to Britain. What eventually tipped the scale was the fact that we won't be able to do the British undertakings at a later stage but we will be able to get the chance to go to Canada once more. So the thing is that we haven't as much canceled Canada as much as postponed it as we see it and as we hope you do too.

So my fair sprucecutting cousins in Canada our love for you is as strong as before in our hearts even though our bodies may be on a tiny island somewhere on the other side of the Atlantic. We are also already at work looking for a good solution and a happy end to this. We will come to your Canadian town and we will play it to pieces. We just hope that you can be patient this once and give it some time.

-I was sitting in Japan, in my hotel room watching boring music TV when THE HIVES video for "Hate to say I told you so" came on. I thought great! Who the fuck are this band? I got back to England to find that they had played my club RADIO 4 and the whole office was going mental about them. I then got the album and my thoughts were confirmed THE HIVES are the greatest garage punk (or whatever you want to call it) band on the planet. Meanwhile England is going through a "New acoustic movement" - Fuck that shit - Salute THE HIVES!!!

Now he knows where it's at again, and are releasing the cocky titled "Your New Favorite Band" on his new label Poptones.
